چکیده

The natural beutm size at the interaction point of a storage ring can be increased by operating the machine in a configuration in which the ener,T-dispersion function (7 function) is nonrepetitive in the periodic cells of the machine lattice. This mode of operation has been studied in SPEAR and is being considered in the PEP design. The usual method of beam enlargement in SPEAR has, been to operate the machine in a configuration with a large value of the r)function at the interaction point, but with periodic r) -function in the cells. Some of the results of this study will be described.

USE OF SPEAd OPERATING TIME

Operating ex erience with the SLAC electron-positron % storage ring over t e past year is summarized. The control of several beam instabilities and the colliding beam performance over a wide operating range are described. The successful application of variable momentum dispersion to increase the beam size and luminos.ity is described. The improvement program to increase the energy to more than ...

SLAC – PUB – 9255 June 2002 Tuning Knobs for the NLC Final Focus 1

Compensation of optics errors at the Interaction Point (IP) is essential for maintaining maximum luminosity at the NLC. Several correction systems (knobs) using the Final Focus sextupoles have been designed to provide orthogonal compensation of linear and the second order optics aberrations at IP. Tuning effects of these knobs on the 250 GeV beam were verified using tracking simulations. Presen...

Numerical Calculation of Small-angle Collimator Wakefields for Short Bunches

Collimators are used to eliminate halo particles from the beam. To relax the wakefield effects a gradual transition from a large to a small aperture is used. However, the existing computer codes face severe problems for long tapered transitions. Two main sources of the problems are the grid dispersion and the staircase geometry approximation. Using recently developed time domain numerical appro...

SLAC-PUB-2143 June 1978 EVALUATION OF BEAM DISTRIBUTION PARAMETERS (A) IN AN ELECTRON STORAGE

The motion of a charged particle in a linear electromagnetic device can often be analyzed by using the transport matrices. For an electron storage ring, this technique has been applied to yield fruitful results such as the trajectory of the particle distribution center and thebeam sizes and shapes in phase space. Coupling effects among the horizontal, vertical and longitudinal motions are inclu...

Slq-pub-1215 (a) March 1973 Operating Results from Spear*

Initial operating experience witll the SLAC electronpositron storage ring SPEAR is described. A luminosity of 1.2 x 1031 cm-2 set-I has been achieved and two-beam interaction effects are described. A single-beam coherent instability, which can be suppressed either by control of the ring chromaticity or by feedback, has been observed. Current-dependent bunch lengthening and widening have been ob...
